This course may be taken by licensed professionals in a state other than California, if, they are applying for the LPCC licensure in California.

This course is designed to help you:

  • Identify Legal and Ethical issues in counseling including but not limited to professional ethical standards and significant legal considerations.
  • Increase familiarity with the licensing law and process.
  • Define and increase fluency in regulatory laws that delineate the profession’s scope of practice, counselor-client privilege, confidentiality, the client dangerous to self or others, treatment of minors with or without parental consent, relationship between practitioner’s sense of self and human values, functions and relationships with other human service providers, strategies for collaboration, and advocacy processes needed to address institutional and social barriers that impeded access, equity, and success for clients
  • Increase familiarity with HIPAA requirements and standards
  • Identify unprofessional conduct and negligence
  • Define best standards of practice
  • Identify necessary continuing education requirements
  • Increase knowledge of professional ethics.
